点评:Absolutely fascinating and informative day trip to Grodno in Belarus! We left Vilnius early in the morning to beat the traffic at the border, which we did (the border crossing formalities were interesting by themselves), and continued on to the historic town of Grodno. My guide was terrific, so knowledgeable about the region’s history, not to mention fluently multilingual in several languages. Because it was a solo trip, we were able to stop and visit some of the smaller towns and villages on the way. Grodno itself was both historic and picturesque, with a very pronounced Russian influence (as one would imagine). Definitely felt like stepping back in time. Highlights aside from the city tour: visiting the beautifully-restored 11th century castle and some stunning churches, including the 12th century Kalozha Church which was unlike any I’ve seen (apparently the the only surviving monument of ancient Black Ruthenian architecture). We also had a fantastic lunch in a local Georgian restaurant. I can’t recommend this tour highly enough — it felt like i was visiting with a friend. I only wish I’d had enough time to visit Minsk as well!
