The Highlight of my visit to Dubai
Al Shindagha Museum的点评
点评：Wow.
I spent 3 hours in this wonderful museum, and I only managed to visit about a third of the total area.
First of all it's very easy to get to - just a couple of hundred metres from Al Ghubaiba Metro station. On the day I went there was a juice vendor in the park I walked through, and there's also a water fountain if you need to fill up your bottle.
The ticket office is in the first building you come to. The friendly staff in their told me all about the Museum, and then a guide showed me around the next building where there was a small theatre with an audio/visual show.
On through various other buildings with modern audio/visual presentations and a few artefacts.
I'm in no way interested in perfume, but Fatima in the Perfume House showed me round and I had a personal and detailed presentation of the different aspects of perfume making, and the subtle smells of the different ingredients. Absolutely fascinating.
There were so many other houses - history, culture, religion, wildlife, flora, the water and so on.
It was sad that there were so few visitors here. In many of the houses I had the place to myself. There were security guards, but they were friendly, helpful and discrete.
I had to be somewhere else so I sadly had to cut my journey short, but Al Shindagha made a lasting impression on me. It's also on a very quiet part of the Creek, and there are also a number of cafes and restaurants on the waterfront.
OK. Dubai is glitzy, glossy and very much 21st century, but if you want to get an idea of the original Dubai, this is the place to come.
