Sundown Point is different than Gardiner Point

点评：Sundown Point is at the south end of Arthur Beach, by Sundown Creek. Gardiner Point is at the north end of Arthur Beach, by the mouth of Arthur River. The south end of Arthur Beach is where more than 100 false killer whales were stranded in February of 2025. Their remains were still there when we walked in the area in November 2025. We began our walk at the car park by Nelson Bay. We walked along Nelson Bay Beach and over Sundown Point to Sundown Creek at the south end of Arthur Beach. Sundown Creek was signposted as poison water, so we did not cross. Most of the carcasses were on the other side of the creek, but we found one on the south side. It was very sad to see. We tried to walk back by the 4WD track leading to the car park at Nelson Bay, but we were prevented by a massive mud puddle in a swampy area. We turned around and walked back to the beach and retraced our steps. We never saw the Aboriginal petroglyphs that are supposed to be in the area.
