Beaks & Feathers Guided Walks & Tours are a MUST DO

点评：We traveled to Stewart Island specifically to see endangered birds in their natural habitats. Beaks and Feathers had the best reviews so we chose to do two different tours with them: Ulva by Land & Sea Guided Tour, and Kiwi Spotting. Both tours were spectacular! You can read my other review on Kiwi Spotting for more detail on that experience.
Ulva by Land & Sea Guided Tour was our first experience on a protected island while in NZ. Carly was our guide and shared so much history and information about NZ and the conservation efforts that are currently in place. She pointed out native trees, bushes, plants, and of course BIRDS as we walked along the well cared for trails. She was diligent in using her ears and eyes to spot lots of different species and made sure that we all got to see them. She was fun, personable, and passionate about Stewart and Ulva Islands. Carly gave us a foundation of information that we referred back to over and over throughout our trip. I can't tell you how many times she popped into my head and wished I could contact her to share something that we saw at a later time and place. She was a true gift.
The second part of the tour was by boat and our skipper was clearly a local and knew all the spots to find wildlife. He also shared loads of information and history. We saw multiple types of shags (cormorants), sea lions, and more. He spotted a fishing boat with a flock of birds and zoomed over to check it out. All of a sudden we had a flock of albatross surrounding us!! That was the coolest!
Everyone involved with Beaks and Feathers was fabulous and I can't recommend them highly enough!! Thank you for making our trip to Stewart Island so very special.
