点评:An amazing day with Roberto Caudullo. He is a gentle, friendly man, unruffled by last minute changes, inclement weather and teenage boys. He’s a volcanologist and told us so much about the mountain, about other volcanoes, about the plants and trees. He also answered all our questions about Sicily, the culture and the people. We walked for 2 hours in the weird landscape, over previous craters and larva flows. We had a delicious lunch in the forest beside a huge larva flow and then explored a lava tube, a cave, with helmets and torches. Despite driving up Etna (amazing driving by Roberto’s friend Tucci) in a full monsoon-like thunderstorm, we had glorious weather at 2000 feet and the views were breathtaking. Our boys, 14 and 12, loved this day as much as we did. It will live long in the memory!
