点评:Pope's Tavern was built in 1830 and is not serving liquor! It's a small but very interesting and comprehensive look at the civil war, with exhibits devoted to slavery, history, and the daily life in the 1800s. There is even a recreation of a field hospital as used during the Civil War. The museum's curator spoke with us and it's clear he is very passionate about presenting a fact based experience. The Slavery in the Shoals exhibit won an award of excellence from the American Association of State and Local History and will open permanently in the small house behind the museum in the future. We visited in conjunction with Mavis's Movin' and Groovin' Tour Bus organized by the Florence visitor's center, so we had a guided tour by Mr Billy, our wonderful tour guide. I could have spent more time in Pope's Tavern as it's very interesting but not overwhelming. Highly recommended!
