点评:We visited the Framework Knitters’ museum today and had a lovely time learning both about the knitting/lacemaking industry’s history as a whole and about the specific people and conditions of the buildings where the museum is now housed. They had a great exhibition of local makers with pieces on display in addition to the historical/machinery displays.
Our favorite part of any museum is the workers and volunteers who know the given subject matter intimately and are excited to share their knowledge. Framework Knitters’ Museum has no shortage of such individuals and we spent a wonderful afternoon in the company of amazing women who showed us around each area and demonstrated the machines.
You could certainly have a shorter visit self-guided, but we would really recommend seeking out their expertise and learning about the history of this industry whether you’re a local or a visitor to the area, as knowledge of this craft (from building/fixing the machines to how to operate them and beyond) is being steadily lost and very few remain to pass the knowledge on.
