On a river where they used to build the boats! - A Staple of Sunderland History

点评：I visited the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens as a nice way to pass the day.
The museum offers free entry and has plenty of exhibits. I first had to see the staple of the museum which is Wallace the Lion who has been with the museum for over 160 years. There was a write up about how Wallace came to be in the museum which was nice to read about.
There were a few other areas which showed off the history of the mines and celebrated the miners unions etc.
I continued on the bottom floor to the winter gardens, filled with lovely tropical plants and a dinosaur exhibit with facts throughout. There is the lovely addition of a small pond full of Koi Carp.
There were also some displays regarding archaeological findings around Sunderland such as skeletons of various animals and humans, with plaques labelling where they were found and what era they were from.
The next exhibit was of what life was like through the years, showing how styles changed over the decades.
There was also an exhibit showing off Sunderland’s shipyards in all their glory. Multiple models of ships manufactured down the docks and history behind each of them. It was a really great thing to see.
Well worth visiting when visiting Sunderland.
