点评:My wife and I and our two long time friends, all of us senior citizens, were up from the Midlands visiting the area, and decided to take the forty-five minutes’ drive across to the museum, and it was totally worth the journey. We didn’t really know what to expect, and our initial impression when we first walked in was that it was quite small and that we would soon be looking for somewhere else to visit in Sunderland. Oh, how wrong we were – we spent a good few hours here as the place is like a TARDIS, with many rooms and so much to see. We started off in the Winter Gardens, and although not the Eden Project it’s still got a lot of plants and is just a lovely way to begin your time here. Then we went onto the museum, and we began in the mining section. Now this had a particular interest for us as my wife’s father’s family all live in the area and a lot of them were down the pits. We spent a long time in this area as there’s so much information. The rest of the museum is just as fascinating, and we spent a good few hours wandering around. I would highly recommend a visit to this fabulous free attraction.
