点评:This was great... and I have often found the interiors of this sort of house faintly uninteresting, but rather a lot of alternatives were not open.
Finding it was annoyingly difficult because after multiple brown tourist signs to it, there isn't one where you actually need to turn in and there's a confusing "No entry" sign. And then it isn't immediately clear how pedestrians get from the car park to the house.
However, once you are there... well balanced input, a very good, well paced video explaining much about the house, and so much of interest for all ages. When my son shared his photos later I realised there were things I had missed. The embroidery - recreations of period pieces - is a particular highlight and was being done by a group whilst we were there. As I was looking at a stunning costume with a beautiful stumpwork bodice, one of them told me it was her daughter's wedding dress. Wow!
The reviewer who describes the tea room as 'tea and a biscuit' is spot on and it was helpful to know that before we went. The gardens were interesting too and I would like to highlight that it is right next to Whitfield Valley Nature Reserve should you have children who need to let off steam before or after your visit to the hall.
