We have been to many gardens in Japan over our 3 visits and this one was extraordinary. Only built after the Kobe earthquake in the 90’s but so impressive. We travelled to Kobe for a day trip from Kyoto to get away from the crowds. It’s only a 30 minute Shinkansen ride away.
Bit expensive but worth the money.
It had great directions from the train station to get to the ropeway up to the garden and it blew us away. Why don’t more tourists go to Kobe? It’s terrific.
The walk down through the garden is spectacular even in winter there were colorful flowers everywhere.
It had a Christmas market and essential oil shop and looked quite European.
It took us 3 hrs to wander down to the half way point and we should have taken the ropeway down as this is the end of the garden as such. Instead we walked all the way down the very steep hill to the bottom. It was hard and was a mixture of steep road and then stairs. We thought it would never end. There’s a waterfall but I don’t think it’s worth the extra pain.
