点评:Visited Samui Monkey Centre in Lipa Noi as part of a guided tour and was not informed in advance about the nature of the attraction.
We observed baby primates wearing metal collars attached to short chains, appearing to be separated from their mothers. Several gibbons were kept individually in small metal cages with no visible enrichment or natural surroundings. Some animals were repeatedly pacing or circling.
At the time of the visit, we did not see food or clean water available, and visitors were encouraged to purchase bananas to feed the animals.
We also saw a primate being used for a demonstration while restrained (climbing a tree to drop coconuts). A large bird of prey was kept alone in a small enclosure, and staff were spinning the perch to make it spread its wings. A deer, peacock, and reptiles were also kept in small enclosures.
One ape appeared to be lactating, which raised concerns about breeding and the welfare of any offspring.
Based on what I personally observed, I found the conditions concerning and not what I expected. We couldn’t wait to get out!
