For the big kids and brave hearts, the main ocean beach is a playground of giant waves just out of reach, where surfers carve tracks on the curling blue crests and seabirds soar high from their clifftop nests. But pack up the boogie boards and wander just a short way, and families will discover a calm, hidden bay. At the Safety Beach off Cottesloe, the water is a clear, gentle pool, perfect for toddlers to splash and stay cool.
As the afternoon softens and the tide starts to slide, a whole new adventure awakens inside! Little explorers with buckets in hand can wander the rock pools where tiny crabs strand, or follow the trail where pink granite gleams, under the spell of old fishermen's dreams.
