点评:I have been to the pool area a number of times with my child the last two times going, there has been a young lifeguard both times he has singled my child out for being in the deep end with myself right beside him. The sign says no non swimmers beyond the red line. My child can very clearly swim and we’ve been working on building his confidence in deeper water. We’ve been in the deeper end with older lifeguards on duty and no one has said anything.
The first incident I was asked if my child can swim two lengths of the pool towards the end of the session although there were adults behaving recklessly, non English speaking children running around the pool at full speed on wet floor and two teenagers both struggling in the deep end and needing to hold onto the side to get all the way back to the shallow end. The lifeguard did not approach any of these people. When questioned why is there a young child running around the response the lifeguard gave was shrugging his shoulder and stating he couldn’t understand English. So that was ok.
I raised my complaint to the manager as this particular lifeguard had questioned no one else but my child during this time. I was told that the problem would be looked into and ensured extra training would be given to ensure everyone in the pool is being dealt with correctly.
Second time we went, same life guard who questioned me being right next to my child not taking my eyes off of them whilst they are swimming confidently whilst taking short breaks for breathing on the deeper end. Asking if my child can swim two lengths but again there had been children struggling in the deep end. A child physically upset because she was struggling in deeper water. And her parent was the other end of the pool. Although the lifeguard did question one other person after he’d questioned myself and my child again.
Attempting to enforce it upon my child to swim two lengths of the pool without stopping just to prove he can swim in the deep end. Strangely enough I don’t see every single person having to prove swimming capabilities before getting in the deep end. And he certainly didn’t ask myself to prove I can swim two lengths to be in the deep end.
Having worked at sea for many years I highly doubt this young lad has the same amount of knowledge of the capabilities of water as myself therefore I am all to aware of how dangerous water/ not being confident in water can be. Hence why I am always right by my child’s side when he’s in the water.
Haven’t been back since and we’ve now opted to join another local swimming pool instead because of this.
