点评:Escaped the snow in Otaru and visited the Bank of Japan museum for free.
Upon entering we just had to fill out a form stating where we came from.
I was able to store my small backpack in a coin locker. The Y100 was refunded when the key was reinserted.
There was a handy brochure in English that helped explain the different sections of the museum as the exhibits were primarily written in Japanese.
The sections to see included some of the following: building architecture, history of the bank, models of the different banks in Otaru, Japanese Yen and entrance into the old vault.
The yen exhibits were hands were hands on. A magnifier helped us see anywhere on the new yen notes the security details. We also got to lift a pile of 100 million yen notes and stick our head and take a selfie as part of the 10000 yen note.
The yen exhibits were better than the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank that I saw last year.
Overall we spent half an hour here and do recommend visiting if you have time. It was just a short walk from Otaru Station.
