点评:This last surviving entrance into the old city from medieval times manages to still capture the imagination. Restoration has of course happened, but enough still remains to transport yourself back 500 years to the times when the gate was a proper thoroughfare, with soldiers and hawkers and sellers congregated around the area. If you remove the two buildings left and right of the street side entrance, you can easily see what a busy place this must have been. Standing inside the gate itself is also impressive, with elevation around 8 meters or so at a guess. Some old recesses where door hinges remain, plus some defensive holes, where I assume archers or soldiers would be waiting for the next attack. A bar code would have been nice beside it for information, maybe there was one, but I didn't see it. Other places in Kolomna have it, plus also some other tourist areas near, which we found useful. Lovely view at night and very peaceful also. Just as a little tip, as you go through the arch, first door on left (not second, as that's the museum), there's a little chapel that's been there as long as the Gate. A lovely old lady in there gave us a 20 min history lesson about the movements of people, history of the chapel etc. It's only 10m x 10m big, but you can sit there and gather your strength whilst contemplating how many other pilgrims like yourself came to ancient Kolomna to pray and give alms.
