点评:I'm sorry this has taken so long to write. As part of our 40th Wedding Anniversary celebration last autumn, this trip was one of our highlights!
The drive from Victoria to Port Alice is very long and unchanging for much of it (albeit verdant), so we were very relieved to arrive at Megan's house. How lucky that we had opted to stay in their home, so that we were ready to go on the trip the next day.
I cannot describe the delicious sock-eye salmon meal to you.. and cannot understand why I failed to get photos of it on the barbecue, but sometimes memories are better left undocumented.
As for the trip itself the next day.. we shared the boat with a wonderful Dutch couple; had an excellent guide, and left through the foggy inlet. Once the sun began to break through, we caught our first magical glimpses of the beautiful sea otter families, gently gliding in silence through the crystal-clear water.
We were stunned to also see kelp forest, rejuvenated years after closure of the mill; enormous star fish; fabulous jelly fish; and herds of seals, resting on anchored lumber, in the morning sunlight. It was quite spectacular!
100% recommendation for this "once in a lifetime" experience.
