The Lotus Houseboat的点评
点评：We left the fabulous Neeleshwar Hermitage for two days on the backwaters. Its a short drive down to the houseboat from the hotel and we were warmly greeted by the crew on arrival. We had booked the full boat for the two of us and although the cabin we were allocated was a good size and well appointed, the bathroom was a bit tired. We set off and were soon enjoying a jolly lunch accompanied, for me, by a welcome Kingfisher beer. The afternoon was spent chugging down the main waterway and having stopped to see the sun setting over the Arabian sea it was time for drinks and dinner. Or was it? It turned out there there was just one bottle of dubious red wine on board, no white wine, no mixers, not even a coca cola. Abject apologies from the crew who explained, when pressed, that the previous guests had consumed everything, save a few beers and still water. I thought this might be the moment to remark that there was no hot water in the bathroom. After a certain amount of discussion I was informed that hot water 'was not allowed'. Not a great start. The following day, having taken a tuk tuk some distance inland, it transpired that the temple we had been taken to see was closed. A visit to a weaving shop with hand looms was fun and informative and again we stopped to see the sun set before chugging back up the main waterway to where we started. Don't get me wrong, the experience has its magic and it is lovely watching the riverbanks drift by but there was no attempt to explore 'the backwaters', even though there seem to be many navigable passages and the crew, although attentive and charming, need to make sure that their boat is actually fully victualled with working hot water before they set off.
