Iceland Geology Tours- Adventure Geology Tours的点评
点评：Its not often when a tour gets my highest marks but my trip to Iceland in 2022 with Iceland Geology Tours was outstanding. Our trip leadersTamie Jovanelly and Joe Cook were the best. I went on the first of two Association of Women Geologist (AWG) trips during the summer of 2022. Most of us were geologist by training but there were a few who weren't and the trip was enjoyed by all. It helps that Tamie " Dr. Jovanelly" wrote the book (literally) " Iceland: Tectonics, Volcanics and Glacial Features" and that she has been going to Iceland for over a decade.
The tour is designed for the active participant and we climbed an outlet glacier, boated amongst icebergs in a glacial lagoon and scaled numerous cinder cones. Tamie and Joe always made me feel successful even though I am a boomer well into retirement. They were able to meld our group who ranged from 20 somethings with those close to their 80s. I liked that the tour guides knew which stops were interesting and what time was best to get there to hike, take pictures and avoid crowds (sometimes impossible in this small country).
Highlights for me were walking on a fresh lava flow which was still off gassing, visiting a geothermal plant and hiking on a glacier (this part I could have done all day). I love the fact that we circumnavigated Iceland and had a diverse experience of accommodations from guest houses to farm stays. We even had the opportunity to milk cows, ride horses and whale watch (non very geologic). The schedule is packed but it also had free days where we could relax and sightsee at our own pace.
Tamie and Joe were the best and so attentive to everybody's needs. Their attention to details was awesome and they made the travel seem effortless. Prior to the trip we had several zoom meetings that prepared us for travel and allowed us to meet the other participants, which I found helpful. I would definitely recommend traveling with Iceland Geology Tours or any other tours that Tamie and Joe plan.
On the negative side, I would say that the weather in Iceland is unpredictable and often wet and gray, but after all it is the arctic. Rain pants, rain jacket, gloves and hiking boots are a must have on this trip at anytime of the year. Leave the umbrellas at home no one uses them in Iceland.
Five stars! I would do it again!
