You don't need to bike to have a good time

点评：It was a fun day out, despite the heat and humidity (it's Singapore, you know).
We didn't bike, which meant we didn't cover as much of the island but we saw plenty of things that bikers went right by, like monitor lizards climbing trees, fancy birds, and tiny durians. We focused on the east side of the island, and did Butterfly Hill, Pekan Quarry, Kampong Durian, and Chek Jawa Wetlands. Do watch out for tiny ants if you leave the trail to explore around the durian trees; they'll crawl up your legs so tuck the bottom of your pants into your socks for safety! We were pretty tired at the end, mostly because of the humidity, and we grabbed a ride back in a van from the wetland. It was just a couple of dollars---so worth it, especially with the air con!!!
If you do decide to bike, make sure to bring extra clothes and underwear. There are many wet areas and if your rental bike doesn't have a mudguard, all that brown water will get flicked onto your entire back. We saw this happen to a few people. It looked awful, and I'm sure it felt terrible, too. We also walked past a few people with bike problems, mostly with their chains getting stuck or fallen off the gear. Our van driver stopped a couple of times to help them out.
Whether you end up biking or not, watch out for the monkeys, prepare for rain, and decide beforehand what parts of the island you'll be exploring. Also, make sure you DON'T wear insect repellent when you visit Butterfly Hill, for obvious reasons. You don't want to drive those butterflies away from their own habitat.
