点评:The Bali travel we undertook in Dec 2024 was a fine blend of various experiences and site seeing spots (typically temples hills sea woods and culture). One such unplanned yet a nice experience was the visit to the Palace Puri Agung Kerambitan (built in 1620). Less than 30mts by car from Tanah Lot. I took some details from the book travel help book DK Eyewitness (Penguin Random House Publication) yet with some apprehension approached this place. To our surprise we were given warm welcome by Mr.A.A.Ngurah Gede Puja Utama aka Ahung Puja the Prince (12th generation). He took us around himself despite no prior appointment (bless him). The place has a nice ambience. He was so expressive about their tradition and promotion of culture and arts as part of Royal Legacy. The history of this place is evident in the way the things are even now preserved and maintained (more than 300 years). Quite unique was use of baked China clay on the walls. The antique furniture and wooden columns on the halls meant for the public audience in the past add a hue to history. Typical red brick walls and Balinese roof with extensive use of bamboo and red clay tiles are part of Balinese architecture. The lush green garden is nice, and it was bit of rains when we visited that added flavor. The prayer area is unique with statues resembling Balinese tradition. We spent less than an hour at this cute palace, but we left with a huge satisfaction of meeting a humble man with royal lineage who carries the tradition on his chest with pride. We also learnt that there are 2 more palaces-built namely Puri Anyar and Puri Jambe later to this Palace by subsequent generations around Kerambitan. History seekers can visit.
