点评:Well, when I first heard about an Urban Air coming to my hometown of Harrisburg; I was very excited about it! Be aware that this review IS OF the Urban Air in the old Home Depot building on Derry Street, in the Harrisburg area, not the one in Altoona, despite what Trip Advisor says!It Now that that is clear, back to my review!!!
The new Urban Air looked like the perfect place for me and my friend to enjoy together, and we were both overjoyed! But, when I finally got to this large, bright, new, place, I was very, very, very disappointed.
Let's start at the beginning' My anticipation of the new Urban Air coming to my town!
It started off with reading their website. They mentioned Bumper Cars, bowling and an arcade! I thought that there was going to be an arcade with lots of great video games to replace the one in the Harrisburg Mall. (In case your wondering, that mall is closed down and there is no form of 'family fun' currently offered there except for maybe the Bass Pro Shop!), and I was very excited about the bumper cars, especially the "Flip Zone" ones, that went upside down. But as it got closer and closer to opening day, one by one the attractions disappeared from the website. But, it gets worse. I was pretty sure that this location was going to have a Twist Tower amusement ride, and the idea of having an indoor year-round amusement ride so close to home was still very exciting! When I walked in, my first question was about this ride. The response; We actually do not have the Twist Tower at this location, and we have plans of getting it! I was furious: The one thing that would have put this place on the map for me, and it wasn't there! But, to this very day, their website still says and shows that this attraction is there! That is flat out lying!!! What's more, sometimes, when I look at the attractions that are available at the Harrisburg location, a large list of ALMOST ALL of the attractions offered at ALL THE URBAN AIR LOCATIONS all across THE COUNTRY come up. It talks about things like an indoor slide park, indoor skydiving and the aforementioned mechanical rides, all things that I would really like, but NOT at the Harrisburg location. Can't the website have a list of all the attractions all Urban Airs offer, and list all the locations that offer them instead of leaving people in the dark. That would be soooo helpful!
Now, I'm going to talk about what actually was there, behind that shiny new door!
Let's start off with the fact that many of the attractions that they do offer; trampolines, trampoline sports, battle beams; gymnastics tracks, ropes course and zip line, are very challenging for me, and some, like the trampoline basketball and dodgeball, I have no interest in whatsoever. Now, they did have an arcade which DID have a few good arcade video games, specifically Nitro Trucks, Super Bikes 3 and Jurassic Park, most of the arcade games were those games that you play to win tickets to get candy and cereal box quality toys. I can see a 5 or 6 year old enjoying them, but I'm an adult! Not a very good example of "family fun". Can't they get more traditional video games, or at least one of those big public game console setups that people can have tournaments and stuff on? The Kicker; You have to sign a waiver, a long and difficult process that takes at least 15 minutes.
to take your kids for a few arcade games after a long hard day of shopping? No!!! Signing a waiver makes sense to do all the big attractions that they advertise, but what could possibly go wrong with plain old, coin operated arcade games!!!
The only things that I can do and somewhat like in this huge place are the virtual reality and the go-karts!
Let's start with the hidden cost. For a fair price, you can do the trampolines and the sports involving them, and it's pretty cheap to upgrade to the pass that includes the ropes course and zip line! But you have to pay $40 to do the Go-Karts and VR! Now, I know about the expense of new VR technology, and the liability issues with go-karts! But, let me turn to my own experience and say that when I said I could do the go-karts and VR, it's more like just the VR! If you have a speed demon in the family, who really loves go-karts, then this is definitely for you! But I am not a motorhead or NASCAR enthusiast, and can only ride as a passenger, which makes the go-kart track about as much fun as a pony ride at your local community festival! I could still enjoy the VR, but it would have to be something pretty amazing to make the 80-dollar cost for me and my friend to do it to be worth while! I know that memberships ARE offered, but after what I just said, I am not getting a membership to a place that really isn't appropriate for me!
I can see how this place could be fun for many people, and I do enjoy that it is in our community. But for me, I have more hope for the rumored Fun City Adventure Park that is going to open up in the Colonial Park Mall' at least it looks like it might have a few slides that I can do!
It's still an excellent family fun place where kids can get their exercise and time away from screens without even knowing it..... But,.......... Make sure you know what is there and your child(ren) are capable of doing these attractions, and like them, before taking a family trip there.
