点评:While on my motorcycle trip to Newfoundland I look for at least one thing in each city I stay that offer insight into the area and stretches my brain.
This is one of those places.
I confess I knew nothing about Acadian culture. I just lumped them together with the Quebecois and I know some had settled in Louisiana many generations ago.
My personal guide was a knowledgable and charming young woman who is in her third summer working here. I peppered her with questions and she handled them with great aplomb. Her English is perfect, despite no starting to learn the language until she was 10.
The church itself is the perfect medium to tell the Acadian story from the stained glass windows, the stone work featuring a lobster, timber cutting, farming and even an airplane. The mosaics honor the help they received from First Nation peoples.
There is also an excellent 25-minute multi-media presentation is what was one a chapel just off the sanctuary.
If you're in Moncton, swing by and spend an hour or so.
