点评：This morning, I had an excursion to Hump Island Oyster Company. I questioned my decision since this excursion at 7 AM (yes, seven in the morning) and my husband nearly staged a mutiny. He’s not a morning person; in fact, at that hour this morning he was still wrapped in Morpheus’ embrace while I’m trying to caffeinate myself into existence. After a pot of coffee and two Diet Cokes, I was buzzing down the gangway like a cold, shivering hummingbird, equal parts caffeine jitters and Alaskan chill.
Enter Steve, our driver—the kind of guy you just want to hug. Friendly, warm, and full of Alaskan survival tips.
At the pier we met Harper—picture an Alaskan GQ cover model—and Captain Greg, who looked like the sort of man who could fix your boat, your car, and maybe even your Wi-Fi all before breakfast. Captain Greg even treated us to a bonus detour: five humpback whales bubble-feeding right beside us. Honestly, at this point I was wondering if I’d accidentally signed up for “National Geographic: The Live Experience.”
When we finally reached the farm, Mikio gave us an oyster education that was nothing short of brilliant. I pride myself on knowing a thing or two about what I eat, but clearly I’d been coasting through life as an oyster ignoramus. By the time Cambel served up the freshest oysters I’ve ever tasted along with more fun fact and knowledge of oysters
So, was it worth dragging myself (and by “myself,” I mean me, because husband was still snoozing) out of bed at dawn? Absolutely.
