Worth It Even In October!

点评：Excellent experience, worth the long drive from Auckland and the highlight of our trip to the North Island. Being the shoulder season, our group was small, just us two snorklers and another couple dry suit diving. The crew was funny and super-competent, and really did a great job of making us feel well-attended to.
We saw a good amount of the two islands, had a nice bagged lunch and plenty of hot tea, and dove at two really great sites. The 7mm wetsuits and hoods kept us warm in chilly temps, but I’m not sure we’d have been as comfortable had the sun not come out for a few hours.
Saw lots of cool fish, stingrays, and colorful plant and mollusk life on the island walls, plus a fun pod of dolphins, seals, and a couple kingfishers in addition to hundreds of gannets and other seabirds. The sites they chose for our trip were fairly gentle waters in coves, and the wetsuits kept us buoyant almost as if wearing a snorkel vest.
All in all, definitely high on our list of snorkel spots. Likely even better in the summer.
TIP: Bring a set of extra warm and dry clothes to change into if you’re diving in October.
