Studlagil canyon的点评
点评：The Studlagil Canyon is located on Route 923 south of the Ring Road around 70km from Egilsstaðir. There are two parking locations, one small carpark on the west side of the river near the early 20th-century bridge that is free. However, you have a much longer hike to the canyon from this location. The east side carpark costs 1000kr for basic vehicle. Use the Parka app to make payment.

From the East Carpark, you will have to walk in nearly 4km to the famous basalt column lined canyon walls so be ready for roughly 8km walk as part of the experience. The walk is fairly comfortable, no real ascents, just distance to cover until you arrive.
You will see basalt formations amongst the hillsides, falls and streams in route, all good natural distractions. However, not much can prepare you for the remarkable scene that awaits, when you begin to see the powder blue waters gushing past the columns and the waterfall in the background.
Views up the walking paths are amazing. However, making your way down to the riverbed is walking through the narrow gap is priceless. We were the first to arrive in the morning and had the place mostly to ourselves for nearly 30 minutes. While there was little light making its way into the canyon at that early hour, the experience was memorable.
We wore gloves while climbing around on the columns at water level. They were useful but not essential. Shoes with good grip are an absolute most however.
This is one of those special places we remember about our trip to Iceland. Would certainly include it in must places to visit if we were to do the Ring Road trip around Iceland again in the future.
