Highly recommended trip to Scattery Island

点评：What a wonderful trip! We booked this tour, not really expecting anything outstanding, boat trip and a walk around the island. How wrong were we! The trip starts at the Kilrush Marina, a lovely building with excellent facilities, coffee, snacks and toilets (which were spotless). The boat trip went on time and we were welcomed aboard by the lovely crew. The journey time across to the island is quite short, maybe 15 mins. We were welcomed on to the island by the Office of Public Works (OPW) tour guides. There are a number of guides and they split us in to different groups and gave us a detailed tour of the sights on the island. They were knowledgeable about the history, myths and stories and had a few funny jokes thrown in too. Our guide was Eamonn and he was a great guide.
As it was Heritage week, there were crafts people in the cottages showing you how to tie knots, weave baskets and make fishing nets. After the tour, you had time to explore on your own. It was also a celebratory occasion and the Bishop!!! came to the Island and delivered mass in the ruin of the church, there was a choir as well, very moving and delighted to have experienced this.
It was a beautiful sunny day and some people had brought picnics and wine! There are plenty of places to stop and lay out your picnic. The trip lasted 3.5 hours in total. Highly recommend it, good value for money and a beautiful island with a lot of care and thought put in to the way it is laid out for tourists. Enjoy!
