Fascinating and relaxing visit to a perfectly preserved castle, gardens and restaurant

点评：Visiting Cawdor Castle and its gardens was one of the (two or three) clear highlights of our trip to Scotland in October 2025. I recommend visiting there in the highest tones.
It isn't easy to get there if you are not driving (true of most places in Scotland, I suppose). You either need to walk several kilometres along roads with no footpaths, or call a taxi. We did the latter and the price was worthwhile. The lady at the ticket office / entrance kindly helped us call another taxi to get back to Inverness afterwards.
The castle itself is extremely interesting and the visit is really well organised. The ticket office distributes audio-phones (you can choose from quite a number of languages) and you go through at your own speed, but there are also a number of guides / security people throughout the building and they are both happy and competent to answer questions. Cawdor Castle is clearly a home, rather than a museum or a ruin, which is probably the most important reason for its attractiveness.
After the visit, we had morning tea at the restaurant located within the castle complex. It was great: tasty, copious and served by very friendly staff. British visitors were having lunch and seemed to be happy with it. There was a large choice of food available.
We visited mid-morning in early October and were not nearly alone, but the carpark was very far from full. A couple of tour buses arrived just as we were leaving. I wouldn't want to be going through the castle or the restaurant with two bus-loads of tourists, I have to admit.
After visiting and eating, we spent a while in the formal garden and in the forest behind the castle. Both are beautiful, very well maintained and relaxing to visit. I wanted to vote for the garden on the site of the Royal Horticultural Society, but unfortunately, only members can vote.

我们十月初的一个上午参观，虽然人不少，但停车场远未停满。我们离开时，正好有几辆旅游巴士抵达。说实话，我可不想和两车游客一起穿过城堡或餐厅。
参观和用餐后，我们在正式花园和城堡后面的森林里漫步了一会儿。这两个地方都很漂亮，维护得非常好，让人感到放松。我想在英国皇家园艺学会的网站上给花园投票，可惜只有会员才能投票。
