点评:On a recent California & Oregon coast trip, our tour group stopped at a place called the Big Tree trail, in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. This was a fun little hike, more like a walk, through lush green plant life and many big redwood trees. We were able to see many interesting examples of the eco-system of a redwood forest including “nurse trees”, the amazing plant growth, fallen trees returning to the earth, how injured trees regenerate, symbiotic plant relationships, etc. But the highlight of the trail was titled “Big Tree”. It was amazingly large! The signage gave much information about the tree itself, and the redwood life processes I have enumerated above. I have included pictures of “Big Tree” and some of the other things we saw. Our tour was comprised mostly of retired folks, and we encountered no difficulty with the trail. It was well-cared for and mostly flat. It would also be interesting and easy for children.
