Fantastic cork tour and so unique to Portugal's culture!

点评：This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Our tour guide, Micaela, was outstanding. She was extremely knowledgeable and personable, and she encouraged questions. Additionally, Pepe Aromas was very accommodating of our group of 7, despite arriving 20 minutes past our reservation time due to scheduling conflicts with our hotel breakfast. They made activities accessible and allowed us to drive to a part of the tour as an accommodation for the needs of some of our group members. Otherwise, there is a total of approximately 4 miles of walking as part of the tour.
During this cork tour, you get the chance to learn about Portugal's history as the largest cork producer in the world. You learn about cork trees and have the opportunity to see a piece of cork being harvested by hand. Pepe Aromas prides themselves on zero waste farming and sustainability practices, and it is evident that they take this mission seriously. In addition to cork farming, they also have an abundance of prickly pear plants that are visible upon entrance to the farm. You learn about their decision to begin planting and harvesting prickly pears and the benefits of this plant. They have a wonderful shop that you can visit following the tour, and Micaela provided us with recommendations for restaurants in the next town we would be visiting as well as things to do.
I cannot recommend this tour enough and am so glad we had the chance to learn about this unique and important part of Portugal's culture!
