As a kid growing up in the 1970s, I saw a National Geographic doco of Naghol/Land Diving. I had been entranced ever since. Witnessing the Naghol ceremony was a “bucket list” experience.
It is impressive that the Pentecost community are so committed to retaining their culture, identity and traditions – continuing this ceremony.
I highly recommend those wanting to experience this amazing ceremony to consider travelling with Vanuatu Ecotours for a 3 day experience – rather than just fly in, fly out.
Staying on Pentecost Island for the Dive Deeper trip provided the opportunity to learn so much about the traditions of Pentecost, see more of the beautiful countryside and meet the wonderful people of Pentecost.
Accommodation is simple, comfortable, and friendly. Food was plentiful. Our guide, Roy, having grown up on Pentecost, provided connections and insights into this wonderful culture.
For me, there was a lot of pressure on this trip – I travelled from Australia to Vanuatu, only focused on attending Naghol. Vanuatu Ecotours were fantastic, communicating well, everything was perfectly arranged.
This is a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you Rob, and our amazing guide, Roy.
