点评:The high point of our visit to Nordfjordeid was the Sagastad Viking Centre. This museum tells the story of the discovery of the Myklebust burial mound and ship, as well as the its recreation. The ship is believed to have been burned as a funeral pyre for King Audbjörn Frøybjørnsson who died in battle against Harald Fairhair before the unification of Norway. The centre houses the recreated ship, which was constructed based on the archaeology. It is fully functional and makes periodic sea journeys from the centre. There is a 20 minute movie (in English) and a number of other related exhibits in the centre. The museum as a whole is accessible, but the ramp onto the ship itself was too steep for me the attempt in a wheelchair. My wife however did go aboard and explore the vessel. The original ship was the largest Viking Age ship found in Norway. This is a wonderful museum for those interested in the history of that era, or of maritime history in general.
