If you're planning a trip to the Omo Valley or southern Ethiopia, look no further.
I have just finished an incredible 10-day in-depth journey through the tribes of southern Ethiopia after Degu was recommended to me, and it turned out to be one of the best travel experiences of my life.
Not only did we complete everything we had planned, but Degu constantly went above and beyond to create experiences I never expected. He introduced me to extraordinary communities, helped me experience their daily lives with genuine respect, and even made it possible to witness authentic ceremonies that very few visitors ever get to see.
At every step, he made sure these encounters were respectful for both the local communities and for me as a guest.
Degu is full of energy, incredibly passionate about his work, and seems to know everyone throughout the Omo Valley. Wherever we went, people knew him, trusted him, and welcomed us. That made a huge difference and opened doors that I don't think many guides could.
What impressed me the most was his professionalism and integrity. My safety always came first, and I trusted him completely throughout the entire journey.
On a personal level, Degu is simply an amazing person. Now I feel I have a real friend in Omo valley.
For context, I've previously spent weeks living with indigenous tribes in Papua New Guinea, the Amazon, and parts of Asia. I don't make this comparison lightly— Degu is one of the best guides I have ever had anywhere in the world.
