点评:We went to the Shoshazan Engyoji in late November. Weather was cooling at about 10 degrees. The highlight is visiting the shrine that was used to filmed the movie The Last Samurai by Tom Cruise. The shrine is still well preserved and felt majestic when I was walking along the area. There is also an indoor museum that show many artefacts you will enjoy if you are a fan of Japanese history.
Most of the tracks are muddy and some areas are uneven. Hence, a good pair of hiking shoes is a must. It was drizzling when we were there. Hence it was a bit slippery. There are also small temples surrounding the bigger ones. Having a map is important too.
Last tip is you need to give some buffer for walking to the ropeway and the wait time for the bus. If you miss the bus, it can be another 30 mins to 1 hour wait.
Overall a beautiful place worth a visit if you have half a day to spare.
