点评:We had a very nice visit to this national park during our trip through northern California. During our early June visit, the road that traverses the park was not fully open yet as we could only drive to Bumpass Hell from the south entrance. However, we were able to walk from there along plowed portions of the road.
Lake Helen was the highlight with Lassen Peak as a backdrop. Despite being almost summer, the lake was still frozen and there were still huge snow drifts in the area. Don’t forget sun protection if doing any hikes given the higher altitude and strong glare from all the snow that’s still around.
Being a bit isolated, the park was not busy and did not require reservations. The visitor center by the south entrance was staffed with rangers, had informative displays, a large selection of souvenirs, and a cafe with both hot and cold options.
