点评:I had never heard of Itchiku Kubota previously and to be honest, I had no idea about his artwork or what to expect.
The entrance is a stunning gate framed by limestone, and the lush garden and waterfall inside is magnificent.
The entrance fee to the exhibition hall is expensive at around ¥1800 per adult.
There is a small museum and onsite cafe as well.
I mentioned above that I had no idea what to expect until we entered the exhibition hall to view an introductory video explaining Itchiku Kubota's work.
To summarise, he created kimono decorated with individual scenes that could then be hung alongside one another to create a continual theme reflecting the changing seasons.
The effort and detailed work that goes into creating each individual kimono is just astounding. No wonder his art was his life's work...
Photography is not allowed in the exhibition space, but I did find a pic of his most famous kimono online, which I have included with this review.
For someone not artistically minded, I found the exhibition very moving.
