Great place to spend a day or two while travelling around Iceland
Snaefellsjokull National Park的点评
点评：This is the national park surrounding Snaefellsjökull in the western end of the Snæfellsnes Penninsula. It was created in 2001 and includes roughly 170 sq. km of lava field and volcanic shaped landscape.
There is a Visitor Centre with WC at Malariff (open 10.30-4.30pm daily) just off Rt 574 which visitors can use to drive around the national park taking in regular inland views of Snaefellsjökull, the glacier-capped volcano shaped by past lava flows. The volcano has a lovely shape and is beautiful on clear days.
There are other interesting land formations and natural attractions to visit throughout the national park as well. We very much enjoyed seeing the basalt cliffs and pillars at Londrangar just a few km away from the Visitor Centre, further north the Saxholl Crater made an interesting brief stop. We also enjoyed the detour drive through the lava fields along Rt 579 to the Svortudoft Lighthouse. This made for a very good day trip of leisurely sightseeing around the Snaefellsjökull National Park. Next time around, we would prefer to allow an extra day or more for more hiking around various parts of the park.
