Great Historic Summer Stock Theatre #3
New London Barn Playhouse的点评
点评：This is the 4th historic summer stock theatre I have visited in my attempt to visit as many summer stock theatres as possible in the New England Area. ( so far Winnipesasaukee, Ivoryton, Goodspeed)
This is the definition of a "barn theatre". It is 93 years old and you can see the beams and barn board in the walls and ceiling. The smell of old wood only adds to the ambiance. I loved it! I could almost see Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney "spontaneously" saying "Hey let's put on a show!"
We saw Sister Act and it was made up of a combination of interns , professional actors some of whom were Equity members with impressive bios. It was fantastic. The lead had a fabulous voice and the supporting were great too! I loved that interns were there learning their craft!
I need to mention that the bathrooms and porch had just been added or renovated. They also added an elevator to accommodate the handicapped. In listening to some of the patrons apparently this was a fantastic improvement.
We sat in the balcony and honestly the experience was wonderful. Small theatres of this type create a much more intimate experience than the big theatres in Boston or New York where one feels like cattle!
I would highly recommend this theatre! I would, however, suggest bringing a folding fan because even though they have air conditioning it is very ineffective. The difficulty of retro fitting in a 93 year old barn is obvious. I used my playbook but would have appreciated a small folding fan since it would be lighter to fan. It was particularly hot because a sold out theatre.
