Great K V Kathakali Center的点评
点评：We visited for the kathakali show which comprises of 2 parts: the make-up showing and the performance.
The make-up portion of the show is quite fascinating to watch. For an hour you can watch an actor prepare for their role and putting on their intricate face paint.
The performance has an intro section to help familiarise yourself with the dancing and then a performance from the Mahabharata. We were lucky to watch Bhima smite the demon, Bhishma.
The show really encompasses the Keralan culture and is truly a unique form of art and I found it fascinating throughout.
A few things to note if you do want to come. The seats are reserved in purchase order. So, if you're short, book asap! My wife was unfortunate enough to have a taller man in front of her until we shifted seats but if the venue is full, you won't have that option. The seats aren't raised enough to clear any decent height.
Lastly, the performance has no speech in it. It is purely accompanied by lots of drums and cymbals of Keralan style. This got too much for me by the end of the performance and made it hard to focus. Other than that I really enjoyed the show.
It was a great show and I'm very happy that we got to visit and experience this.
