Fun boating canals and wandering park seeing birds

点评：We started our visit with 1.5 hour boat ride on the canals with a boatman. This was very fun. Our guide’s English was quite good and he did an excellent job of explaining the history of the canals, how they were constructed, and the local flora and fauna. Gliding down the canals was a nice, relaxing experience – it was dead quiet other than the calls of birds – and the scenery was very interesting. We had lunch on site which was both convenient and tasty. We then wandered the extensive ornithological park. It is very large, with many ponds, canals, and meadows. There were birds everywhere. Signage was excellent with photos of the birds and French names. If the bird was from North America, the English name was also given. Seeing the photos helped us look for the birds. We saw many varieties of herons, egrets, ducks, swans, ibis, cranes, pollards, avocets, and plover. If you enjoy birds, you will love this place. (And if you have small children, there is a much smaller area at the entrance to the park where they can see a variety of birds including roosters, pheasants and peacocks).
