Idyllic haven to enjoy a stroll and a light lunch amongst the vines

点评：What an idyllic place! So different from some of the other big vineyards in the South like Denbies. We fancied a drive out and a leg stretch and thought we'd take a look at this vineyard having seen it had a free vineyard trail.
On arrival there was just a minibus in the parking area whose group looked to be receiving a briefing so we picked up a map of the trail by the little shop and set off amongst the vines. It was only about 20mins walking but interesting to see all the different grape varieties clearly signed with quiz/fact boards around the estate. The only thing we missed was the alpacas by the lake, as they were way down at the far end and we found out later there were only 3 of them. On return a helpful member of staff was available who explained the wines available and then we ordered a sharing platter of sausage roll, quiche and salad & fruit from their own site @ £18 for the 2 of us. We also shared a flight of 3 x 50ml wines to taste for £10 (hubby driving). We sat on one of the outside terrace tables but the inside tables also look really attractive. After our lunch we headed inside the old windmill which was beautiful too, and you can look over the vines from the 1st floor balcony. Will definitely return with friends. It's such a peaceful place (no road noise etc as quite remote) and apparently they don't often get private weekday groups like they had that day - their own tours that you can book on run at the weekend. So if you go in the week for a walk around by yourself you may find you have the place to yourself - enjoy!
