点评：We started at the museum with the expectation that the entrance to the excavations start there, but this was not the case. The museum is interesting but for 10 Euro per adult (kids are free) too highly priced, especially if you have seen the archeological museum in Heraklion already.
The excavations are distributed in the area and you will need a car.
After the museum, we drove to the Necropolis - another 10 Euro adult ticket to pay, which was quite surprising, but 100% worth it. The lady at the site was giving very exciting background info. We then drove to the entrance of ancient Eleuthera. Park across the Taverna Filio. Do not park directly at the ancient site entrance, as there were some naughty kids that scratched some other tourist‘s car there. You can walk towards the Byzantine tower and Roman cisterns (roughly 30 min). Especially the cisterns are worth visiting. We could also see the akropolis from the path (bring binoculars), but decided not to walk there with the kids.
To best see the site, I recommend:
1. Learn some history of Eleutherna online, or pay 10 Euro for the museum.
2. Drive to the Necropolis (10 Euro)
3. Park at the Taverna Filio to see the ancient site: cisterns, watch tower, alropolis and more (for free)
4. Have some coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice at the taverna.
