A wonderful, into my ate rescue centre that puts animals before tourism
Porfell Wildlife Park & Sanctuary的点评
点评:Customer reviews suggesting animal cruelty stopped us from visiting Porfell for several years, but eventually, we decided to go along and make our own minds up. I'm really glad that we did.
It's a quiet, non-assuming sanctuary for abandoned, injured and neglected animals. It is not a glossy zoo where conservation is an afterthought or a commercial theme park where more money is spent on appearances than the animals. This is what a wildlife park should be.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a very entertaining parrot and we moved on to meet beautiful lemurs, meerkats, a zebra... Our five year old daughter was mesmerised.
It took us about two hours to look around and we could have spent longer if we'd taken a picnic or bought sandwiches before the shop ran out. The facilities were more than adequate for the size of the park.
As neurodivergent adults with an autistic daughter, we found the small, gentle nature of Porfell much more condusive to a successful trip than some of the bigger, overwhelming wildlife parks were tried.
I can only assume that the people leaving scathingly reviews were looking for a big budget zoo rather than a needs-led, family-run rescue centre.
