点评:I visited on a slowish weekend it seemed. I arrived around noon and there was almost no one else. The admission fee was very reasonable. Despite there not being a scheduled tour until 1:30pm, Sharon was extremely kind and offered me a chance to tour at 12:30pm after checking with the guide. While I waited, there were several displays, portraits, and a video at the visitor's center to help ground me in the place and history. As no one else arrived, I ended up getting a 1.5 hr private tour from Kevin A., who was exceptionally passionate and knowledgeable. He readily answered my many questions and was honest where he/the historical record had gaps. We also had a deep conversation about slavery at the property and within the Washington family, and he offered several book recommendations for me to learn more. I deeply appreciated that this was part of the tour because it did not gloss over the darker parts of history. On the lighter side, Kenmore's rooms have some of the most beautiful stucco work I've ever seen and so much of it is original! Highly recommend stopping by if you're visiting Fredericksburg.
