点评：Who doesn't want to take five minutes out of their day like we did to see a 31-foot-tall steel-framed fiberglass statue of American folk hero Paul Bunyan?! This Bangor statue was built for the city's 125th anniversary celebration and unveiled on Feb. 12th, 1959. It is one of the largest Paul Bunyan statues in the world, and the most lifelike. It was also built to withstand 140 mph winds, which is equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane. The base contains a sealed time capsule that is to be opened on the city's 250th anniversary, Feb. 12th, 2084.
Besides this statue in Bangor, some other worthwhile ones to check out around the United States are: 1) the oldest Paul Bunyan statue (1937) with his trusty sidekick, Babe the Blue Ox, in Bemidji, MN; 2) a kneeling Paul Bunyan statue in Akeley, MN; 3) the Paul Bunyan and Babe statues that welcome guests at the Trees of Mystery attraction in Klamath, CA; and 4) another 31-foot-tall Paul Bunyan statue in Portland, OR that was also built in 1959 like the one in Bangor.
If we can go back to Minnesota, they also have a Lucette Statue, or Paul Bunyan's Sweetheart, which is in Hackensack, MN. Starting at Bemidji, MN, by seeing the oldest Paul Bunyan statue, you can then travel south through Paul Bunyan State Forest to get to the kneeling Paul Bunyan statue in Akeley, MN. Afterwards, it's just a short drive to the Lucette statue. Once done, head to the Brainerd Welcome Center for a 12-foot statue, followed by another statue at Paul Bunyan Land in Brainerd, MN, and you've got a whole day of roadside Paul Bunyan fun.
