点评:My visit was pre-booked for Layer Marney Tower. On arrival the place looked like a private residence and it took me some time to find the entrance for the public which is in the corner directly opposite the gates as you drive in.
This was the shop, leading to courtyard and tea room. The standard of the building was excellent considering its age; the whole place clean and neat as a pin.
First, I viewed the Long Gallery. Clearly this is now used for a wedding venue and what a place! Then I walked past the knot garden and up to the tower itself.
There weren’t many rooms inside the tower to visit but the building itself was impressive with very ornate castellations on the roof. I didn’t venture onto the roof top as it was still very windy though sunny and I was getting dizzy just going up to the seventh floor of the tower.
Amazing display of dolls houses and heraldry but the building itself is what leaves you awestruck.
The church next door was part of the complex and had been built in the same terracotta brickwork with castellations permitted by Royal Order of Henry VIII.
