点评:It's out in the middle of nowhere, but it's still very much worth the drive. Secluded back here are a bunch of outcroppings of ancient Marshall Sandstone, a body of rock indigenous to Michigan. Among them is a large rock with historic petroglyph carvings that, according to park authority, are believed to date back 300 to 1,400 years (sometime between 600 and 1700 AD). Many of the carvings are hard to understand, but some do seem to make references to a few obvious things, possibly humans with arrows hunting certain kinds of animals.
The petroglyph rock is securitized and surrounded by fencing. A park attendant has to enter the enclosure with you if you want to see it. You can view the rock from late May to early September.
Also, there's more to see than just the petroglyphs themselves. They also have a loop trail to explore, which is open year-round. It is, by estimate, anywhere from one-half to three-quarters of a mile in length (around 1 kilometer). You'll see more Marshall Sandstone outcroppings along the trail, plus your typical Michigan nature along with some trees that are more than a century old. It's mostly a dirt trail, however; it's not a paved path or a boardwalk path, and you do have to climb a couple of steep hills in the process. The trail also circles around a couple of rivers/streams and can get muddy after heavy rains, so you do have to be careful and use good judgment.
If you love archaeology and/or like to view nature, you owe it to yourself to go spend one to two hours here.
