点评:Our second stop after checking out the nearby A-maze-ing Laughter public art installation. We visited on a mild, overcast Fri morning in late-Sep 2025 so no sunbathers anywhere, just a few tourists out on a beach stroll, the odd swimmer just getting back to shore, some scavenging seagulls — we were entertained by the amusing sight of a huge fledgling seagull chasing its parent for food — and Canada geese waddling around like they own the place.
English Bay Beach, aka First Beach, is a wide sandy beach with rows of logs to sit on, lean against or put stuff on. Not a particularly clean beach, we couldn't help but notice the tidal wrack and debris —seagrass, shells, feathers —but not a deal breaker, really. Pretty insignificant if compared to the sargassum that plagues Mexico's popular tourist beaches. This one though has a nice, expansive view of the ocean, mountains and passing sea vessels.
Amenities include drinking fountain next to outdoor beach shower and foot wash stations, accessible beach mat as well as change rooms and washrooms at nearby English Bay Bathhouse. English Bay Beach is bounded by the Seawall path and the massive Inukshuk monument to the east. Saw several signs clearly stating "alcohol/liquor not permitted at this beach".
