点评:If you are researching a visit to Toronto nearly every source will list this as a top 10 activity you must visit. It is a lot like Faneuil Hall in Boston but much larger. It even served as market and city hall when it first opened until the Old City Hall was built in 1899. Still, it is a public market that has operated for nearly 200 years and continues to be at the heart of the city's commerce.
Built in 1845, the building is over 111,000 SF over two floors and holds more than 50 vendors selling fruits, vegetables, meats, cheese and meals. It is massive and can take time to absorb the entire space.
I had planned to visit the market first thing after we landed in Toronto to get lunch for our group. Unfortunately, airport delays significantly reduced our time. We were able to get to the building and have lunch, but we did not have as much time as I would have like to absorb all the vendors. We did take the opportunity to have lunch at Paddington's Pump in the building to enjoy the Peameal Bacon sandwich which is a staple of the center. It was a great meal that I highly recommend. Additionally, the St. Lawrence Market is something you will have to see on your visit to Toronto.
