There was a cold snap in Florida and heard the manatees were congregating in the warm springs. A quick trip north had us at the park in under three hours and we made sure to get there right at 9AM. There were only two parking spots left in the parking lot and we noted a long line of cars waiting to get in when we departed after 1PM.
The sign at the entrance said there were over 600 manatees counted for that day already! We saw probably 50 or so and it's likely the only time we will ever see that many in our lifetime (unless we go again).
The park is easily laid out for people of all abilities to walk around. You can also take a river cruise or rent a kayak. The grounds had ample picnic space and we saw a lot of families out enjoying the sunny but brisk weather. Many people also had their dogs and it is just a wholesome day being in nature and seeing majestic and rare creatures you normally wouldn't get to see in their (mostly) native enviroment.
